Swiss Destination Wedding Letterpress Invitations | Lou's LetterpressTwo years ago, my sister Trisha and her husband Tim celebrated their wedding in Leysin, Switzerland. It was an intimate family affair complete with a church marriage ceremony, a gondola ride to their mountaintop cocktail hour, and a reception dinner in a Swiss chalet. Truly a dream European destination wedding!

Nuptials this wonderful needed the invitations to match, so we pulled out all the stops for their letterpress wedding invitation suite. The invitations started with a custom illustration of the Dents du Midi mountaintops, which are the view from the town of Leysin. For a subtler impact, the mountain illustration was letterpress printed without ink. This blind impression letterpress printing can have a significant effect and is a fun way to incorporate modern style into a traditional design.

The couple wanted a classic and timeless design. A navy ink was chosen along with a natural white, 100% cotton paper. The paper was upgraded to double-thick for a very substantial feel, and the envelopes were lined with a solid navy paper. A classic script and serif font were used throughout the invitation, response card, and reception card.

This invitation suite embodied the classic style of this couple and their Swiss mountain wedding day!

Black and White Letterpress Wedding Invitation Suite

Carey and Jess came to me with plans for a classic black and white wedding celebration that they wanted to carry through their letterpress wedding invitation design. With a focus on timeless design and a few modern twists, the wedding invitation suite came together in high style. High-quality details completed the look including letterpress printing, double-thick paper throughout, and black and white envelope liners. These details ensured an extra "wow" factor once the letterpress invitations reached their guests.

"Lou was wonderful - easy to work with, helpful and informative. It was a breeze working with her and the invitations are beautiful, so many compliments." Carey S.

The letterpress invitations maintained a classic design overall but utilized a square invitation card for a modern nod. Staggered date details kept the invite fresh and unique as well. The letterpress invitations were printed on double-thick cotton paper which emphasizes the letterpress impression. Then they were paired with timeless black and white striped envelope liners. Inner and outer envelopes were used as a final touch to make sure the letterpress invitation suites were delivered safely to guests' homes.

The couple hails from Colorado. With many out of town guests, a separate reception card was incorporated to share the wedding website with detailed travel information. The wedding attire was listed here as well.

For the response card, it was essential to allow each guest space to indicate their meal choice. To allow for this necessity, two response lines were listed on each card. This helped to minimize extra follow up by the hosts.

The wedding was held at Baltimore Country Club in Baltimore, Maryland.

Custom Business Letterpress Stationery for Clagett Designs

Custom Letterpress Business Stationery for Katie Grabner of Clagett Designs

When Katie Grabner reached out for me in need of new letterpress stationery pieces for her interior design brand, Clagett Designs, I knew it was a match made in heaven. Her design portfolio is overflowing with inspirational images and a particular penchant for blue & white accent pieces that I adore!

For this project, we created branded letterpress stationery that Grabner can use to mail notes to her Clagett Design clients. A handwritten note can be so impactful with your clients, and I cannot recommend it to brands and businesses highly enough! Also, I letterpress printed business envelopes for Grabner to mail invoices with smaller return envelopes for client payments. This is a thoughtful and well-branded touch for businesses that receive check payments from clients.

The letterpress business stationery incorporated Clagett Design’s branding with the business name flanking the logo. It was printed in 2-color letterpress on 100% cotton cardstock. The ink was custom mixed by hand to match Grabner’s brand colors which are two complementary shades of blue. On the envelopes, the return address was letterpress printed with the logo as well. To tie it all together, I incorporated envelope liners with a blue & white floral pattern that we a good fit with Grabner’s existing branding elements.

For the business envelopes, we used #10 business envelopes to fit invoices printed on letterhead. These were letterpress printed with Clagett Design’s return address. I sourced a smaller envelope that could comfortably fit inside the larger one. We were able to find this second envelope in a light blue that coordinated with Grabner’s brand colors. For this reason, the address on each envelope was printed in the complimentary darker blue shade.

Lou's 2018 Christmas Cards

Posted by Lauren 'Lou' Skayhan on

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. 2019 has been off to a busy start! Before moving onto new projects, I want to share my custom letterpress Christmas cards with you.

Letterpress Christmas Cards | Lou's Letterpress

These are my favorite personal Christmas cards to date, and I hope you enjoy them as well! For these cards, I started with the holly which I used to create a hanging garland framing the card. The addition of two songbirds perched in the corners of the garland helps capture the festivity of the holiday season while a modern script and sans serif font create a fresh greeting. Two holly sprigs frame the year to finish off the cards.

For these cards I chose a double-thick 100% cotton bright white paper for printing. The garland is printed in a forest green ink, and the songbirds are printed in a matte metallic gold to offset the green garland and red envelope.

Letterpress Christmas Cards

When you’re printing two ink colors for letterpress, you print all the cards with one color to start. Then you need to clean the press and prepare the second color for printing. Once the second color and printing plate are ready, all the cards are run through the press again. The addition of one color essentially doubles the work involved to letterpress print!

Finally I used the holly and songbirds to create a custom pattern that I printed on the envelope liners. Custom envelope liners are such a special detail that I cannot pass up on my own projects and highly recommend them for yours as well!

Many thanks to Megan Robinson Photography who snapped our family photo at my brother and sister-in-law's wedding in Park City last October!

Thanks for reading along about my Christmas cards! Tell me in the comments below—did you send out holiday cards this year?!

New Children's Signature Letterpress Stationery

Posted by Lauren 'Lou' Skayhan on

New Product

I am very excited to introduce our latest social stationery set: Children's Signature Letterpress Stationery! This customizable stationery set features your child’s own signature which is then letterpress printed on your new 100% cotton cards. The result is adorable and certain to elevate all their sweet notes into family keepsakes!

How does it work?

After you place your order, we’ll start the process with your child’s signature. You’ll simply need your child to write their name in black marker on white paper, snap a photo, and send it to me! (A fine or medium tip marker works well. The example shown was originally written using a Sharpie marker.) Once you send the photo, I will digitize the signature on my computer and have it made into a custom printing plate. Then I use the printing plate to letterpress print the signature onto the cards in the ink color of your choice!

You can view the new offering here: Children's Signature Letterpress Stationery. I hope you enjoy this new stationery as much as I enjoy making it!
