Two years ago, my sister Trisha and her husband Tim celebrated their wedding in Leysin, Switzerland. It was an intimate family affair complete with a church marriage ceremony, a gondola ride to their mountaintop cocktail hour, and a reception dinner in a Swiss chalet. Truly a dream European destination wedding!
Nuptials this wonderful needed the invitations to match, so we pulled out all the stops for their letterpress wedding invitation suite. The invitations started with a custom illustration of the Dents du Midi mountaintops, which are the view from the town of Leysin. For a subtler impact, the mountain illustration was letterpress printed without ink. This blind impression letterpress printing can have a significant effect and is a fun way to incorporate modern style into a traditional design.
The couple wanted a classic and timeless design. A navy ink was chosen along with a natural white, 100% cotton paper. The paper was upgraded to double-thick for a very substantial feel, and the envelopes were lined with a solid navy paper. A classic script and serif font were used throughout the invitation, response card, and reception card.
This invitation suite embodied the classic style of this couple and their Swiss mountain wedding day!
