When my daughter Beatrice turned one, I was so excited to design invitations to celebrate her first birthday! As we all know a party starts with the invitations, and I wanted a sweet simple theme to weave throughout her special day. I quickly settled on incorporating her silhouette and a soft blush & white color palette.
Once the invitation design was complete, I letterpress printed the invitations on bright white paper with matte silver ink to incorporate a celebratory touch. After the invitations were printed a blush hand-dyed silk ribbon from Silk & Willow was carefully wrapped around each invitation and secured with a white wax seal bearing Beatrice's silhouette. The invitation was completed with a blush envelope that matched the silk ribbon.
The typefaces used in the invitation were carried through onto the envelope. The return address was letterpress printed in matte silver ink as well and each guest address was carefully handwritten with a silver brush pen. On the inside of the envelope “You’re Invited…” was letterpress printed for a fun anticipatory moment as the guests opened their invitations.
I couldn't be happier with how the invitations turned out, and the biggest reward of the day was seeing Beatrice have a blast at her first party! There’s nothing quite like seeing a baby enjoy her first fistfuls of cake!
